Frequently asked questions

Is it OK for people with claustrophobia?+

Some passages are narrow and low, and you'll need to stoop in places. If you feel uncomfortable, your guide can arrange for you to wait on an upper level.

How deep do you go?+

Derinkuyu reaches about 85 metres. The levels open to visitors are part of that, reached by stairs.

What should I bring?+

A light sweater, since it's cool underground, and shoes with good grip.

Is it accessible for people with limited mobility?+

Steep stairs and narrow passages mean it is not wheelchair accessible.
